NExT Exam Syllabus
The syllabus of the NExT exam has been released by the National Medical Commission. The exam’s syllabus will be in two stages as per the Regulations of the National Exit Test 2023. The NExT Step 1 syllabus includes the subjects for the third and final year of MBBS, Part 1 & 2. There will be six papers in NExT Step 1 that will cover the applied aspects of all subjects in pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical disciplines in the MBBS.
NExT Step 1 is an exam for theoretical concepts, while Step 2 is an exam for practical/clinical assessments and a Viva Voce examination. The qualifiers of the NMC NExT Step 1 and candidates who have completed their one-year compulsory internship are eligible for NExT Step 2. The NExT exam syllabus consists of seven clinical subjects/disciplines. AIIMS is likely to conduct the NExT exam as per the latest NExT updates. However, the date for the NExT exam has not been declared yet. Registration for the NExT Mock Test started on 28 June.
NExT MBBS exam: Distribution of Subjects
As per the guidelines issued by the NMC, the NExT Step exam will consist of six papers, conducted in two shifts. Candidates can refer to the table below for details regarding the subjects covered in each paper, along with the number of items and the allocated time.

NExT Step 2 Syllabus
NExT Step 2, a practical examination, will assess candidates on various aspects such as clinical diagnosis, patient examination, clinical decision-making, practical skills, and communication skills essential for modern medical practice. Below are the subjects covered in the NExT Step 2 syllabus.

Admit card for NExT Mock Exam
The admit card of the NExT MBBS mock exam is made available for download online. The admit card is issued only after the candidate has completed all aspects of the application form for the NExT mock practice. All students should note that the admit card will not be sent separately by post. Instead, candidates must download the NExT mock exam admit card from the Aiims exams official website using the candidate’s registration ID, EUC, and password.
A printed copy of the Admit Card should be taken to the examination centre for the NExT mock examination. The following details should appear on the printed admit card: IP address, barcode, Roll number, Name, photograph, etc. Students are advised to check out the details as shown in the admit card if they find discrepancies or raise a query with the exam officials.
NExT Exam Pattern
AIIMS Delhi will publish the updated NExT exam pattern along with the official information bulletin brochure dates on its Aiims exams official website. The exam pattern will include the mode and medium of the exam, the total number of questions and types, the time duration of the exam, and the marking scheme. The NExT MBBS exam will be conducted for the first time in August 2025. The examination will have two steps.
NExT MBBS Pattern
The NExT pattern has not yet been declared but AIIMS has given the NExT Step 1 mock exam pattern. The NExT pattern is likely to be the same. According to the NExT MBBS marking pattern, NExT MBBS exam will be conducted in computer-based mode in two shifts. There will be two papers, paper 1 and paper 2. The total number of questions is 260.

NExT MBBS Mock Test
The NMC official said in a statement that the NEXT MBBS mock test had been cancelled. The competition will refund the registration if the applicants had previously registered. The NMC NExT exam was meant to be administered on July 28th, and candidates needed to submit an official exam registration and application form. The NEXT MBBS mock test registration began on June 28th on the Aiims exam's official website. The mock test is intended to familiarise applicants with the computer-based exam process.
