The exam conducting body issued the NEST Application Form 2025 online on February 17, 2025, and the deadline to apply for the NEST Exam 2025 is May 9, 2025. The NEST Exam is divided into four sections: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and all of the questions on the exam will be based on these four disciplines. The NEST Syllabus 2025 is based on CBSE/NCERT's rationalised science syllabus for classes 11 and 12. Candidates must thoroughly review the NEST Syllabus as they prepare for the exam.
NEST 2025 preparation includes learning about the syllabus, exam schedule, and marking scheme, as well as tackling previous year question papers. NEST 2025 Preparation paper and NEST exam books pdf are important aspects for applicants to succeed in competitive exams such as the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST). NEST 2025 will be a computer-based test (CBT), with two sessions on the same day. Candidates preparing for the Integrated MSc entrance test by NISER and CEBS can find NEST preparation suggestions here, including a study schedule, exam format, syllabus, and literature.
How Do I Prepare for NEST?
Because four different themes are likely in the NEST 2025 question paper based on last year's trend, candidates should prepare for each segment separately. For this, candidates should:
- Create a proper study plan.
- Know the exam pattern of NEST.
- Get the books and study materials.
- Know the NEST exam syllabus for each component.
- Practice sample test papers or online mock tests.
- Solve the test in a timely manner, and applicants will experience the pressure of the exam at home.
Making a Study Timetable for NEST 2025
The NEST 2025 test will have a cut-off mark criterion based on section. Candidates should begin their preparation by following a section-by-section plan. Candidates taking the NEST 2025 exam should plan a reasonable timetable with equal emphasis on each component of the examination paper. Devoting appropriate time to each subject will benefit the applicants.
Candidates should devote two hours to each NEST subject, with:
- One hour spent clearing concepts.
- 30 minutes creating notes.
- 15 minutes revisiting concepts.
- 15 minutes completing questions/mock exams online or offline.
Following this method on a regular basis will help applicants qualify for the exam.
What Is the Marking Scheme for the NEST 2025?
Before taking the national-level Integrated MSc exam, you must understand the pattern, which includes the test paper structure, question types, and marking scheme. The details of the NEST exam are provided below:
- Exam method - The exam will be held in a CBT format, with applicants assigned systems to take the exam.
- Test paper language - All NEST questions will be in English only.
- Type of questions - NEST question papers will be objective in nature, with multiple options, and candidates must darken the correct answer on OMR sheets.
- Total number of questions - There are 70 questions to be attempted, separated into five sections.
- Total marks - The results will be scored out of 180 for the General section and the 'best three' subject sections.
These will serve as NEST 2025 preparation suggestions 2025.

Several factors are taken into consideration to decide the NEST cutoff points, which are listed below:
- Total number of applicants took the NEST exam
- The difficulty level of the exam.
- The cut-off markers, or SMAS, will vary by sector, as will the MAP for NISER and CEBS.
- To be eligible for NISER, candidates must score equal to or higher than MAP and SMAS in the General portion as well as all four areas.
- To gain a spot on the merit list for CEBS, candidates must score equal to or higher than MAP and SMAS in the General section as well as any three topic sections.
NEST Cutoff 2025 Important Dates
Important dates for the NEST 2025 cutoff are described in the table below:

NEST Cutoff 2025: Details
The NEST 2025 cutoff has not yet been released; it will be uploaded once it is declared. Candidates should expect the cutoff declaration after the results are released. The NEST 2025 cut-off will be calculated as follows:
- 'Section-wise' and 'overall' NEST cutoff points: The cutoff will be the sum of the best three subject scores plus the overall score in the general part.
- Section-wise The Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS) will be determined as 20% of the average of the top 100 scores in that segment.
- For example, if the average of the top 100 Biology scores is 40 out of 50, the SMAS for Physics will be 40*0.20 = 8 marks.
- The Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS) for NEST 2025 will be 50% of total marks (180).
- To achieve a merit rank, candidates must score equal to or higher than the Minimum Admissible Score (MAS).
- Candidates who score an equal or higher MAS but do not achieve SMAS in the general section in at least three sections will not be given a merit rank.

NEST 2025 Sectional Cut-Off
The sectoral cut-off marks, known as SMAS, are the most important criteria for shortlisting candidates. The NEST 2025 merit list for NISER and CEBS will be based on candidates' percentile scores across all academic parts.
The candidate's total score.
The SMAS will be calculated as 20% of the average of the best 100 scores in each area.
The numerical value of SMAS varies by section.
To be considered for the NISER and CEBS merit lists, candidates must meet SMAS requirements.
SMAS for the OBC category would be 90% that of the General category.
SMAS for SC/ST/Divyangjan would be 50% of that for the General category.
