The National Medical Commission (NMC) has published the NEET 2025 syllabus in PDF format for the upcoming exam. While the syllabus remains largely the same as last year, a few topics have been added and removed. Students can download the NEET 2025 syllabus from the official website. It covers three main subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The total number of chapters has been reduced from 97 to 79. Biology carries the highest weightage at 50%, while Physics and Chemistry each account for 25%.
NTA will announce the NEET 2025 exam date on its official website. The exam is expected to take place on May 4, 2025, and application forms will likely be available in the first week of March.
There are speculations about significant changes in the NEET UG 2025 exam mode. However, no official confirmation has been released yet.
NEET Exam Analysis 2024
Overall Difficulty: Moderate to tough: Tough, with Physics: most difficult, then Chemistry and Biology. Biology sections were mainly derived from NCERT, but there were a few unusual questions in the exam. NEET Paper Analysis reveals that chemistry had a few conceptual questions and mostly application problems, and all the questions given in the exam were covered in the syllabus.
Physics
- Focus: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Light waves and Particles, Contemporary Physics
- Question Types: Mathematical reasoning (30%), The direct, immediate MCQs involve matching the columns, assertion, and reasoning.
- Analysis: Needed a firm conceptual base, and due to numerical problems, extra attention was needed.
Chemistry
- Focus: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry
- Question Types: Summary, practical and numerical, matching, and statement questions.
- High Weightage: Organic chemistry and the area of inquiry most commonly known as ‘Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques’
- Analysis: The fourth section of questions is also balanced to check on the fundamental concepts as well as their application.
Biology
- Focus: Human physiology, Genetics, Plant physiology
- Question Types: Based on NCERT standard, ‘from figure to figure’, and ‘from direction to direction’, match the columns and are statement-based.
- Analysis: Mostly NCERT-based and of different types, some of them felt that the section was a tad too long especially because it contained many match-the-columns.
Syllabus Coverage Ratio
Subject | Class 11 Syllabus Weightage | Class 12 Syllabus Weightage |
Physics | 40% | 60% |
Chemistry | 46% | 54% |
Biology | 53% | 47% |
NEET Exam Analysis 2023
Overall Difficulty: Easy to moderate in difficulty. Among all three groups, chemistry turned out to be the most difficult; the second most difficult was biology; physics was the easiest of them all. The major part of the questions was based on the textbooks published by NCERT.
Subject-wise Analysis
Chemistry
- Toughness: The most difficult of the three subjects.
- Focus: Organic Chemistry is repeated with the highest weightage of 42%, Inorganic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry.
- Of all the questions: 46 % were from Class 11 and 54 % from Class 12
Physics
- Ease: The least difficult part of the test, mostly formula/definition questions.
- Topic-Wise Weightage: Examples of the textbook's key topics were Alternating Current, Modern Physics, and Rigid Body Dynamics.
Biology
- Difficulty Level: Catchy to mosaic
- Content: Mostly conceptual questions of NCERT syllabus, but some analytical questions were also asked.
- Topic-Wise Weightage: Disciplines such as Human Reproduction, Genetics, and Ecology societies were included.
