What is the NEET Exam 2024?

NEET is the commonly used entrance test for MBBS and other paramedical courses for admission to the undergraduate level in India. Administered by the NTA, NEET is conducted every year in an offline mode, in the pen-paper method. The length of an examination is three hours and 20 minutes, 200 multiple choice questions are set on Physics, Chemistry, Biology where 180 questions have to be answered.

NEET is a considerable requirement for taking admission in faculties such as MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing and several others. This is offered in 13 languages and observances participation just as over 20 lakh applicants every year. MBBS is the most popular course among the students, then comes BDS and B Sc Nursing.

NEET 2024 Counselling

The NEET 2024 counselling has been planned by the MCC. Candidates who scored equal to and above the NEET 2024 cutoff marks would participate in the test. The counselling is divided into two categories: There are, 15% AIQ seats and 85% SQ seats. The responsibility of counselling for the AIQ seat is with the MCC while the state counselling authorities are for the state quota seats.

The counselling process includes several steps:

• registration
• choice filling and locking
• seat allotment result, and
• Required to submit the report to the institute designated by the schedule.

Medical and Paramedical Courses
 

The NEET UG is the eligibility test for several undergraduate medical as well as paramedical courses. These courses are available in almost all the universities including AIIMS and JIPMER campuses all over India. Below is a list of the primary courses available through NEET UG:
 

The total number of medical, dental, AYUSH, and veterinary colleges in India which accept the NEET score are 706, 323, 914, and 47 respectively. As of 2021, the entrance to the BSc Nursing programme is also through the NEET score.

NEET 2024 Result

The NEET 2024 scores came out on July 26, 2024, following the nullification of bonus marks that were added for a contentious Physics question. This revision was made after envisaging the decision made by the IIT Delhi special committee, according to which the question must have a fifth option only. The last schedule of ADM, MS and ANSWER KEY was announced on 4/6/2024 and the ADM admit card was available up to 24/6/2024 followed by the results on 01/07/2024 for all the candidates who appeared for the re-exam intending 1563 no.

3. Enter the NEET 2024 Application Number, Date of Birth, and Security PIN.
4. Submit the form to view and download the scorecard.

The NEET 2024 result includes the following details:
 

• Candidate's name
• It is a policy to include subject-wise marks based on marks obtained divided by maximum marks and the percentile score obtained in the test.
• Total marks scored by the candidate out of 720
• Total percentile
• All India Rank (AIR)
   

Moreover, the centre-wise all-India results have been made available which provide the count of the candidates who appeared in the centre and their standard score but no identifier.

NEET 2024 Tie-Breaking Policy

Before the actual implementation of the tie-breaking criteria for NEET 2024, the change was done but then it reverted to the previous year’s policy. The criteria for resolving ties are as follows:

The condition of having received a higher mark/percentile in Biology and in particular in Botany & Zoology.

• Higher marks/percentile in Chemistry.
• Higher marks/percentile in Physics.
• Less mistakes on all the subjects and getting more correct answers.
• Lesser number of mistakes in solving Biology problems.
• Lesser misconceptions about the subject of Chemistry.
• Lesser mistakes particularly in answering Physics questions.
• Arranged in order of increasing Application Number.

NEET 2024 Toppers

The new NEET-UG 2024 merit list specifies 17 toppers, originating from various states. Below is the list of NEET 2024 toppers, including their ranks, categories, and states:

Out of all the states with toppers, Rajasthan leads with four, Maharashtra is next with three, and Delhi has two. The toppers’ list shows the region-wise distribution of bright aspiring students who aim to write the NEET 2024 exam.

NEET 2024 Answer Keys

The NTA declared the final NEET answer keys for NEET 2024 online on July 26, 2024. This revision also proved that the much-debated Physics question had only one right answer, which again was not mentioned in the original answer key released on June 4, 2024.

They could obtain the final answer keys from the NEET website of their choice and download the revised final keys. The answer keys and OMR sheets of the NEET 2024 re-examination were published on June 23, 2024, and the link to challenge it was active till June 29, 2024. The official answer keys for re-exams were launched on July 1, 2024, showing that no paper was changed or omitted in the final re-exams.

The NEET 2024 Provisional Answer Keys were released on May 30, 2024, and the candidates complaining about the discrepancies in the answer keys have to pay the fee to challenge it. Upon considering the mentioned challenges, the NTA declared the final answer keys which are not challenged.

NEET 2024 Cutoff

The cutoff in the NEET exam 2024, declared simultaneously with the re-revised scorecard, has been lowered by two points for every category. The passing rate this year is lower than the previous year due to more candidates taking the test, in addition, to the level of difficulty of the test NEET 2024.

NEET Exam Centers 2024

For NEET 2024, the examination was held in 4750 centres across 557 cities in the country and 14 cities in international territory. NEET Exam Pattern 2024

The NEET 2024 examination was held in the offline mode i.e. pen-and-paper-based test and the time duration was of three hours and twenty minutes. The test format of the exam was multiple choice and there were 200 questions on which only 180 questions had to be answered. The questions were divided into three sections: Section A: 50 Physics, Section B: 50 Chemistry and Section C: 50 each in Botany and Zoology. Each section was further divided into two parts: Section A had 35 questions and Section B contained 15 questions of which 10 were required to be attempted.

NEET 2024 Application Process

NEET 2024 application form was from February 9, 2024, to March 16, 2024. However, due to COVID and other reasons, NTA once again opened the link on April 9, 2024, for just one day and closed it on April 10, 2024. The steps to complete the NEET 2024 application form were as follows:

1. Registration: Some of them required the candidates to visit the official website of NEET and fill in the registration form with some basic details. After successful registration, the website issued an Application Number which was auto-generated by the system.
2. Filling out the Application Form: They have to enter the Application Number and password to enter the details like personal details, educational details, and the city of the examination centre preference.
3. Uploading Documents: As a part of the application, the candidates had to attach scanned images of photographs and signatures in the specific format and size along with other required documents.
4. Payment of Application Fee: The last process was to submit the application fee using options like Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking, UPI, or Paytm. Depending on the category, the applicant was charged an application fee.
5. Application Correction: NTA also allowed correction from March 18 to March 20, 2024, and April 11 to April 12, 2024, for candidates to effect corrections on some fields in the application form. For those candidates who have gone through the Aadhaar authentication, the respective window for corrections was available till April 15, 2024.

For correction in photographs for the NEET 2024 application, the students can avail the facility from April 25, 2024, to April 26, 2024. They were encouraged to go through their application information in detail to ensure there were no mistakes.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024

The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria describe the conditions that any individual has to fulfil to be allowed to sit for the test. These criteria are nationality, age limit, level of education, and other criteria, to name but a few.

Nationality

Candidates must be citizens of India, or they may belong to the following categories:

Non-resident Indians (NRI)

Persons of Indian origin who are living in another country to where they were born not necessarily permanently or having an Indian passport are Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).

• The policy of Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)
• Foreign nationals
• These candidates are free to take the NEET examination if attracted to medical courses including the MBBS in India.

Age Limit

The age limit for NEET 2024 candidates is 25 years of age or those candidates who have appeared for the examination and cleared it as of December 31, 2024. This means that there is no prescribed upper age limit for one to be able to sit for NEET 2024. The candidate must be born on or before December 31, 2007, which makes him at most aged 15 years.

Another criteria Educational and Qualifying marks are as follows:

To apply, candidates should have cleared their Class 12 or be appearing for it with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects. The qualifying aggregate marks required are:

1. General Category: 50%
2. General-PwD Category: 45%
3. Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC): 40%

The candidates who have taken Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject alongside the above-mentioned subjects are also eligible to take NEET 2024. It should be noted that for previous years extra subjects were not taken into consideration.

Open School Candidates

Aspirants have now the opportunity to attend NEET 2024 if they had their class 12 from Open schools as a private candidate. This inclusion was occasioned by a Supreme Court ruling that endorsed students from open schools as eligible for scholarships.
