What is the JEE Main Exam?

JEE Main is a national-level common entrance test for admission to the undergraduate courses in most of the NITs and CFTIs across the country, and also for admission to IIITs, it is held for seeking admission in B.E/B.Tech, B. Arch and B. Planning courses. In addition, JEE Main serves as a testing criterion for JEE Advanced, which is the entrance examination for the IITs–the premier technical institution in India.

JEE Main consists of three papers: Paper 1 is for Admission in BE/ BTech courses, Paper 2A is for admissions in BArch and Paper 2B is for the BPlan course. It is carried out through the National Testing Agency (NTA) in a Computer Test (CBT) mode covering most of the major cities and some international locations to make it reachable to deserving candidates.

The students who are planning to take the JEE Main 2025 examination should familiarize themselves with the JEE Main syllabus, and exam pattern and with the help of a marking scheme downloadable from the NTA Official Website. Having prior knowledge of the previous year's question papers helps a lot in understanding the standard level and pattern of the exam. Further, judging the chapter-wise weightage of the previous year, one can get an understanding of which topics should not be missed out by any candidate and contribute towards the strategy building for the examination.

JEE Mains Cutoff Percentile

The JEE Mains cutoff is the minimum percentile score required for candidates to qualify for the JEE Advanced examination. It varies across categories and serves as a benchmark for eligibility rather than a pass mark for the JEE Main exam itself. Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs depends on a candidate's All India Rank, determined by their performance in JEE Main, not the cutoff percentile.

Below are details of the JEE Main 2024 cutoff along with previous years' cutoffs for comparison, highlighting trends across different categories.
