What is the GRE Exam? 

The GRE test is administered by ETS. GRE remains among the world’s most extensive assessment programmes for admissions into graduate business schools seeking business or law students and is accepted by most colleges and universities worldwide. The GRE exam is a standardised examination designed to establish a student’s readiness for graduate school based on three sections: analytical writing, quantitative ability, and verbal reasoning.

The test scores of the GRE will be available within 10 to 15 days after the test date, and most graduate programmes that offer master’s or doctoral degrees allow GRE scores worldwide. According to the GRE Official Website, scores are acceptable to business colleges, institutions, fellowship sponsors and law colleges worldwide. Candidates may refer to the GRE test papers and focus on their study plan, which helps beginners for their GRE 2025. 

The GRE exam fee is ₹22,550, and for the GRE Subject Test, students should pay ₹14,500. In the pandemic era, the GRE has established that only Indians need to use their valid India passports for GRE registration, and ETS has made it compulsory for certificates to be submitted. What is the GRE General Test?

The GRE General Test, administered by ETS, is a standardised test that evaluates an individual’s readiness to pursue graduate education. It tests the candidates on three broad faculties, namely Analytical Writing, Quantitative Ability, and Verbal Reasoning. GRE General Test is available all year round and is therefore flexible as it allows candidates to choose their preferred test day. The GRE General Test is a requirement for MS admissions, and it may also be required for admissions to some top MBA or professional programmes at the graduate level.

 The test has become more popular among students due to the increasing number of universities and colleges globally that have accepted GRE scores. The test is offered in three formats: Computer-based Test, which is accessible in many countries worldwide, Paper-based Test, which is available for testing in countries with limited internet and access to computers and GRE at Home Test, which was recently introduced due to the  Covid 19 restrictions and enables candidates to in sit their tests while at home if certain requirements are met and they maintain a good test climate throughout the test period.

What is the GRE Subject Test? 

The GRE Subject Test comprises exams that measure students’ mastery of specific subjects such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. Following the decision to discontinue the GRE Subject Test in Biology and Literature in English from 2021 and the GRE Subject Test in Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology from 2016, the scores for the above-discussed test are still reportable for five years in accordance with the GRE. 

It is important to state that the GRE Subject Test is essential for the consideration of admission into highly specialised or technical programmes. GRE Subject Test is given three times a year in September, October, and April and is offered in a paper-delivered format, which takes 2 hours and 50 minutes. 

Why the GRE Test?

The GRE exam is vital for students who want to pursue an MS or MBA programme, professional degree courses, and thesis work, among other graduate programmes. This is because the GRE is accepted by more universities worldwide, and the trend is growing among business schools, which are beginning to accept GRE scores in place of the GMAT exam. At the same time, some U.S. law schools have begun accepting GRE scores as an alternative to LSAT. Deciding the right time for taking the GRE test for a student can sometimes be tricky. 

The GRE at Home or the computer-delivered GRE tests at test centres are open throughout the year. Therefore, test-takers should be guided to take the GRE when they are ready. Generally, this is when candidates have spent about 100+ hours of study and 1 – 3 months of GRE preparation. 

However, GRE experts suggest that GRE takers looking to pursue university studies should write their GRE test between 60 and 90 days before their first university application deadline. This gives the candidate enough time to rewrite the GRE test, as GRE scores remain valid for five years. While GRE score validity is a factor for candidates, it might be good to note that the GRE score is valid for five from the date of the test. For example, if the candidate tests the GRE exam on April 3, 2021, he or she can use the score up to April 2, 2026.

GRE Exam Eligibility Criteria

The GRE Exam doesn’t specify any eligibility requirements for any student who wishes to write the GRE. A candidate can write the GRE without any requirement of the age limit or qualification from the GRE in 2025. GRE General Test, also called GRE, is a large program-profit evaluation that allows students to enroll in master’s and MBA programmes in most colleges in the world. 

Students must take the GRE examination, which serves as a document of qualification to enrol in master’s and MBA programmes in a foreign country. As mentioned, to appear in the GRE exam, there is no force on completing the eligibility. Still, the students who wish to do the programmes are suggested to pass or qualifying the completion of UG. 

One must know that not all students and colleges require a GRE score for their exams. Turn the student as to pass or not considering the mark, which is based on the university and the programmes which the candidates are interested in taking for their specialisation. GRE Exam ID Eligibility

As of now, applicants are only allowed to register with a valid Indian passport as the primary ID. In other words, no other documents are acceptable as GRE eligibility criteria. 

GRE Exam Gap Years: A gap here or there to prepare for competitive exams or for some other reason does not make one ineligible to appear for exams like the GRE. 

GRE Exam Re-attempts: Applicants can write the GRE up to five times in a rolling year with at least a gap of 21 days. Such an arrangement is made so that candidates have more time to adjust and plug in the gaps for better GRE preparation. 

GRE Exam Accommodation: Applicants who need accommodations while writing the test can determine accommodation-friendly test centres and apply before booking the GRE test. If ETS approves and replies positively, then such candidates can go ahead and book these centres. 

GRE Exam Nationality Eligibility: All applicants of all nationalities are eligible to write the GRE exam. In other words, the GRE does not reject applications based on nationality. 

GRE Exam Home Edition Eligibility: GRE at Home means candidates have to write the GRE from their homes based on certain predefined mandatory system requirements. If a candidate has all these system requirements, he/she can be eligible for the GRE at Home otherwise not. Some of the mandatory system requirements include specific computer requirements, a system including a speaker, a microphone, a camera, various security and privacy standards, tabletop, seat, clothing and note-taking material standards.
