IIM Calcutta has announced the CAT results for 2024-25 and candidates can now download their CAT 2024-25 results. IIM Calcutta made the CAT 2024-25 scorecards available today on the CAT official website. According to the institute's media release, 14 candidates achieved 100 percentile in CAT 2024, one of whom is a woman. 29 candidates got 99.99 percentile, while 30 achieved 99.98 percentile.

IIM Calcutta held the CAT exam 2024-25 in three shifts at approximately 385 test centres in 170 cities across India. This year's CAT question paper was reasonably difficult across all three slots. The total number of questions was 68. The provisional CAT 2024-25 answer key was issued on December 3, 2024, while the official CAT 2024-25 answer key was announced on December 16, 2024. There are no changes to the tentative CAT 2024-25 answer key.

The CAT 2024-25 exam introduced significant modifications, most notably an increase in the total number of questions from 66 to 68, attributed to the rise in the DILR section. This year, the DILR section featured 22 questions instead of the previous 20, distributed as two sets of five questions and three sets of four questions each.

To be eligible for CAT 2024-25, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA. The minimum requirement for SC, ST, and PwD candidates is 45% marks. The top colleges accepting admission through the CAT exam are IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, FMS, MDI Gurgaon.

Mock Test Analysis Tips for CAT 2024-25

With the CAT exam approaching, analyzing your mock tests is essential to pinpoint strengths and areas that need improvement. Here’s how to effectively break down your performance in each section:

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) Analysis

Using an Excel sheet to log performance data can be helpful. Record each mock's details, such as accuracy levels, to understand your strengths and weaknesses.

Accuracy Levels & Action Plan:

  • 80% or higher (Strength): Focus on reducing time spent on each question.
  • 55-75% (Basic): Work on practicing more questions to improve confidence.
  • Below 50% (Weak): Concentrate on revisiting core concepts.

Review incorrect questions, identify your errors, and make notes to avoid similar mistakes in future attempts. If calculation errors are frequent, practice timed problem-solving.

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) Analysis

For the VARC section, pay attention to categorizing and understanding each passage.

  • Classify passages by topic, such as science, economics, philosophy, or an author's perspective.
  • Assess the "tone" of each passage to understand the author’s viewpoint. For incorrect answers, evaluate if your interpretation of the passage matched the author’s intended meaning, particularly when you struggled between similar answer choices.
  • Keep track of new vocabulary words from passages and study their definitions to build your vocabulary.
  • While answering, focus on the author’s tone and choose responses that align with it.

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) Analysis

After each mock test, revisit questions that were incorrect or left unanswered.

  • Set aside ample time (e.g., 20–40 minutes) to try solving these questions without looking at the solutions immediately.
  • For questions you struggled to approach, refer to the solution only after an attempt. Once reviewed, classify the questions into Easy, Medium, and Difficult.
  • This categorization helps in strategizing for future mocks, allowing you to identify which types of questions to attempt first.

These focused analysis techniques can help tailor your approach to the CAT, build on your strengths, and improve your weaker areas for a more strategic performance on the exam day.

CAT Answer Key 2024-25

Candidates should download and save their scorecards as soon as possible, as they will not be issued in hard copy. Scores on the CAT 2024-25 scorecard are final, with no option for challenge. If candidates wish to improve their scores, they must retake the exam in the next session.

MBA Admission Through CAT Scores

Admissions to MBA programs at IIMs and other participating institutions are based on CAT scores along with performance in additional evaluation rounds like the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). The selection process typically includes the following steps:

  1. Screening Based on CAT Score: Candidates meeting the minimum CAT cut-off percentile set by each institute are shortlisted.
  2. Evaluation through WAT, GD, and PI: Shortlisted candidates participate in these rounds to further assess their suitability.
  3. Final Selection: A composite score is calculated based on various parameters, including CAT performance, and candidates are offered final admission.

Understanding these steps and the associated requirements will help candidates effectively navigate the MBA admission process through the CAT.

Non-IIM Admission Through CAT Scores

Many prestigious institutions outside the IIMs also accept CAT scores for MBA and PGDM admissions. While most of these colleges require a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) as part of their selection process, a few admit students based solely on CAT scores, bypassing the GD/PI stage.

Top Non-IIM Colleges Accepting CAT Scores

In addition to the IIMs, around 1,200 colleges in India recognize CAT scores for admission. This list includes several top-tier institutions, including some of India’s finest IITs offering MBA programs through their management departments:
