The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is a three-year undergraduate course. It allows candidates to choose subjects like humanities, social sciences, and liberal arts. This course is great for candidates who want to study various fields such as history, political science, and literature. Admission to BA programs is usually made through entrance exams like CUET, IPU CET, and NPAT, or sometimes based on the marks candidates scored in their previous education. Candidates should have completed their 10+2 with at least 50-60% marks.

Some of the top colleges in India offering BA programs are Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi, Loyola College in Chennai, and St. Xavier’s College. The fees for these courses generally range between INR 15,000 and 30,000. After completing the BA, candidates can look for civil services, teaching, or content writing jobs. They can also choose to study further by doing an MBA or LLB.

The job options after a BA depend on what subject the candidate has focused on. For example, BA  graduates can earn around INR 7-8 lakh per year, while BA English graduates might earn around INR 3-4 lakh per year.

Why Study for a Bachelor of Arts?

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is one of the biggest degree courses in India, and approximately 9 million students register annually. Below is the list of compelling reasons that students should pursue a BA after passing class 12:

  •  Diverse Career Opportunities: Compared to the scientifically oriented or commerce programs, a BA degree offers one more opportunity in a given field.

  •  Broad Scope of Study: Again, as compared to BSc, which can be specialised in Physics or Math, and BBA or BCom which can be specialist in Accounting, the BA can encompass various areas and ideas.

  •  Versatile Employment Options: Some of the areas of operation of BA graduates include health, management, business, finance, and commerce, among others.

  •  Government Job Eligibility: An arts degree is good for SSC and many government recruitment or examinations; hence, a BA is appropriate for candidates who wish to book government positions.

Who Should Do Bachelor of Arts?

  • Literature Enthusiasts: Students interested in learning about different cultures and backgrounds through literature should consider pursuing a BA in Literature.

  • Psychology Aspirants: Those fascinated by human psychology and ways to manage emotional stress and health complications can study BA Psychology.
